DATAC is excited to announce our next webinar Sept 26, 2023 Drug testing in the Canadian Courts, with Calgary lawyer Stephen Torscher. In this webinar we will take a look at the current legal landscape of drug testing in Canada inlcuding case law and recent arbitrations concerning drug testing decisions. Influential decisions will be discussed such as the Federal Court’s endorsement on June 6th, 2023 of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission’s move to require pre-placement and random alcohol and drug testing of workers in safety-critical positions at high-security nuclear facilities, as mandated by their regulatory document.
We are delighted to have Stephen Torscher, a partner at the Calgary law firm Carbert Waite LLP join us to share his knowledge. Stephen graduated from the University of Calgary with an LLB in 2006 and was called to the Bar in Alberta in 2007. He has advised clients workplace policies, grievances and arbitrations, employee discipline, and terminations. He has acted as counsel in litigation concerning wrongful dismissal, human rights, employment standards, and labour arbitrations. He has represented individuals, small business, large national corporations and everything in between. Stephen has appeared in all levels of court in Alberta and the Federal Court of Canada and also frequently appears at the Alberta Labour Relations Board.
